What does a divorce cost?

It depends on what is involved. Attorney fees are charged per hour. So, if you are, for example, fighting over custody, you can expect to spend some money.

If your divorce is uncontested, meaning you are not in disagreement, just want a divorce, it won’t cost as much. You can figure on spending $250 in court costs

Best to come in once you have all your fees available.

If we agree on everything, will you be able to represent both of us?

No. The rules that govern the conduct of lawyers does not allow such. This does not mean you both must hire lawyers. The paperwork will be prepared so that each party will have input. It is just that I cannot consult with or give advice to your spouse. Your spouse will read all paperwork and sign their agreement to it. I simply cannot give them advice.

Can we agree that neither of us pay child support?

Yes but the the judge will not approve it. The Court is required to enter a support order and absent extreme and compelling circumstances, there is no way around this. Child support will be ordered.

Can we agree on a certain amount for child support?

What are the custodial options concerning children?

Sole Custody – one party has the children and decides everything. This situation is extremely rare. You might see this if your spouse is in prison.

Joint Custody, Primary Care to one party. Both parties are involved with decisions concerning the children but the children reside with one of the parents most of the time.

Shared Care. Both parties have equal time with the children. They share custody. You must be very cooperative and place the interests of the children above all else. No fighting.

From start to finish, how long will it take to get a divorce?

The minimum time is 90 days, but this can, in certain cases be waived. If you are fighting, it could take over a year.

Can I get spousal support (alimony)?

It depends on many factors. It is not easy to get an award of support. This would require an in-depth discussion. Give me a call.
